Description:
The HPC (High Performance Computing) enabling of OpenFOAM for CFD applications is a technical, 3 days, review course. The aim of the course is to provide to the participants a clear update, from a technical point of view, of the key subjects, models and tools available today on OpenFOAM, the standard de-facto CFD open-source library .
The course will focus on the usability and performances of OpenFOAM on modern HPC platforms. Specifically, examples and case history of real life industrial relevant problems will be discussed, highlighting the cost-effective benefits obtained using this open-source CFD library on HPC infrastructures.
The course consists of lectures and hands-on tutorials on CFD topics.
Target Audience:
The course is aimed at engineers and researchers working in CFD field of application. Priority will be given to industrial users.
Topics:
During the 3 days course, the participants will be introduced to the several feature up-to-date available in OpenFOAM to solve basic and advanced CFD models for industrial relevant problems including: meshing, single and multi-phase flows, mesh morphing, turbulence models, parametric study and optimization, remote visualization, web-based access to Grid-enabled infrastructure, large data set management.
Benefits:
The main expected benefits for the course attendants are:
● Enlarge their knowledge on latest features available on OpenFOAM to build CFD models;
● Get a clear insight to the scalability performances of OpenFOAM solvers on different HPC infrastructures;
● Experience technical tips-and-tricks throughout the different phases of the tutorial sessions;
● Learn from case history and practical applications on HPC infrastructures;
Prerequisites:
Preliminary knowledge of CFD is preferable.
