ISC 2017 PRACE Training Day
This is a half day workshop which is held on 22 June organized by PRACE in conjunction with the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) in Frankfurt, Germany from 18 to 22 June 2017.
The aim of the workshop is to create an open dialog with the EU HPC eco system stakeholders on addressing the challenges and tackling the skills gap in HPC and Computational Science by providing platform to discuss number of current issues. We see it as a community building event providing the basis for collaborative network of HPC training specialists and generating roadmap ideas for the continuous progress of professional training for the EU HPC eco system.
High-Performance Computing (HPC) is a key strategic asset for the EU, the developed and BRICS economies and their innovative capacity. Major surveys and strategic policy documents both in Europe and USA have identified the inflection points and skill shortages in HPC area. Supercomputing Centres worldwide face the challenge of supporting a growing base of HPC users with little or no HPC experience. In addition they feel the need to respond to the clearly observed convergence of Data Science and Computational Science research methods into Data and Compute Intensive Science methods by enriching their programs with the necessary course for the diverse audience of domain science researchers needing HPC skills to tackle societal, economic and scientific challenges. Thus PRACE training efforts have been addressing the critical need to educate the next generation of HPC scientists through variety of training events.
The agenda is now published with the materials.
