Address: Building G, Middelheimlaan 1, 2020 Antwerpen, Belgium

Here is a map with the most important locations that can be loaded in Google Maps.

Wifi

All meeting rooms have wifi access via eduroam.

If you don't have access to eduroam via your home institution, it is possible to get  a temporary access that is only valid at UAntwerpen during the days of the meeting. For this, please go to www.guestroam.be and fill in the form. Naam/Name, Voornaam/Firstname, E-mail and mobile number are mandatory information. In "Bezochte instelling/Institution you wish to visit" select "Universiteit Antwerpen (UAntwerpen)", and in "Bezochte afdeling/Department" select "PRACE-WP7". The contact person is Stefan Becuwe, but this field should no be mandatory, and the dates will be filled in automatically once you select the right event. On the next screen you will need to enter a confirmation code which you will receive by SMS and e-mail. After entering the correct code, you will be taken back to the first screen, but there is no need to fill this in again.

Once we have approved the request, you will receive an email and SMS with password, userid, and a link to a configuration file that can help you to set up eduroam on your device. In most cases, opening that configuration file on the device and entering your user credentials from the mail should be enough to set up eduroam.

You can follow these instructions even before coming to the meeting if you want eduroam access right from the moment of arrival.

There are a few hotels in the neighbourhood of Antwerpen-Berchem Railway Station.

We reserved a block of 25 rooms in Hotel Tulip Inn Antwerpen at the following rates:

  • Single: 62,50 euro per single room per night
  • Double: 70,00 euro per double/twin room per night

excluding local taxes: 2,39 euro pp pn. Please make a reservation via email to info@tulipinnantwerpen.com, mentioning "UNIV171019".

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Antwerpen-Berchem Station.

In case you prefer another hotel: we advise to chose a hotel close to either Antwerpen-Centraal Station or Antwerpen-Berchem Station as there is good public transportation from there to the campus.

Public transportation in Antwerp

The easiest way to get to campus from either the Antwerpen-Centraal Station or Antwerpen-Berchem Station is by taking bus 32 (direction Edegem Sint-Goriksplein; get off at bus stop "Koninklijkelaan", just in front of the university) or bus 21 (direction Middelheim-Neerland; get off at bus stop Lindendreef). Alternatively, from Antwerpen-Berchem Station you could opt for a healthy walk to campus. From the hotel the best option is to walk to Antwerpen-Berchem Station to catch the above bus, or you can walk following the bicycle path through the park area around the ring road.

Bus stops near Antwerpen-Centraal station

The bus stops of both bus 21 and 32 to the campus are not located next to Antwerpen-Centraal Station, but in the "Quellinstraat", at 500 m from the railway station. Busses returning from the campus have a bus stop next to the station (bus platform 10, see the map)

Bus stops near Antwerpen-Berchem station

There are two bus stops near Antwerpen-Berchem station. Busses 21 and 32 to the campus stop at platform 22 and platform 24. Platform 22 is located under the bridge at the north side of the station (not the bridge on the multi-lane main road which passes next to the station). If you exit via the door near platform 10, turn right, and if you exit through the main entrance, turn left. Platform 24 is located at the opposite site of the square, near the tram stops, and also closer to the ticket vending machine. It is also the ideal stop if you come from the hotel.

Busses 21 and 32 returning from campus stop at platform 21 (on the opposite side of the street of platform 22) and platform 23 (on the opposite side of the street of platform 24).

Bus tickets

You could buy a single ticket on the bus (cash, no credit cards): 3 euro for 1 ticket; or you could buy a 10 trips card "Lijnkaart" (16 euro) or a 3 day pass (14 euro) in advance at a ticket machine. At Antwerpen-Centraal there is a ticket vending machine in the station close to bus platform 10 (see the map) next to the shop of "De Lijn" and next to the Panos shop. You can enter through the station or from the street. At Antwerpen Berchem, there is a ticket vending machine close to the tram stops on the opposite side of the square in front of the main entrance (the entrance near platform 1). Only coins and notes of 5 and 10 euro are accepted!

More information on the different tickets can be found on the website of De Lijn.

De Lijn also has an app (Dutch/French/English) through which you can check your route, get a warning when to leave the bus and buy tickets electronically, including single tickets (only 1,80 euro). It is available for Android in the Play Store and for iOS in the App Store.

Travel information

Arrival by plane

Antwerp has a small airport with a limited number of connections. The major airport in Belgium is located in Brussels (IATA code BRU). There are several direct trains from Brussels Airport to Antwerpen-Berchem. Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam, IATA code AMS) also has a direct train connection to Antwerp. Brussels South Airport (IATA code CRL) is less convenient as there is no direct connection with public transportation.

Note that if you take the train to or from Brussels Airport, you need to scan the QR code on your train ticket to enter or exit the code. This is the only station where you need to do this. There are no such scanners in Antwerpen-Berchem or Antwerpen-Centraal and there is no need to validate your ticket via a machine in the station.

Brussels Airport has an app for both Android and iOS that will show you the gate, the luggage belt in case you have checked-in luggage, etc. All information is on the Brussels Airport web site.

The NMBS (Belgian train company) has an app for both Android and iOS with time tables and through which you can also buy tickets. All information is on the website of the NMBS/SNCB.

Arrival by train

You could take a train to Antwerpen-Berchem. If you would arrive in Antwerpen-Centraal Station, you could take bus 32 or 21 as described above, and get off at Antwerpen-Berchem Station for the hotel or come straight to campus.

The NMBS (Belgian train company) has an app for both Android and iOS with time tables and through which you can also buy tickets. All information is on the website of the NMBS/SNCB.

Arrival by car

Since a parking disc is required (at most 2 hours), this is not convenient. Please contact Stefan and we'll point you to the parking the nearby campus "Groenenborger", at 10 mins walking distance. Alternatively you can use the parking of the hospital next to the campus, which costs 7 euro per day.

Tourist information

Within walking distance (15 mins), you find the Dageraadplaats with many pubs and terraces, the heart of the Zurenborg neighbourhood. There's also the famous Cogels-Osylei.
